Collection: The Long Eared Owl

Long-eared owls are nocturnal and are most active at dusk. They usually roost on a branch during the day, closer to the trunk within dense foliage. When approached, they will freeze with their body stiffly upright, eyes closed to narrow slits, and ear tufts erect. Long-eared owls have an excellent sense of hearing and use it to hunt for prey at night. They usually feed heavily on common local rodents, such as voles, deer mice, kangaroo rats, and pocket gophers. Long-eared owls have a life expectancy of 25-30 years.
